I have always been a very slow healer.
Others will be well past things and moving on,
While I sit on the floor repeating my childhood mantra, “wait for me.”
Things have always been like that in my world.
I have to swim in the pool for quite some time before getting cold enough to get out.
We each learn our lessons in our own way, and I tend to learn them once and well.
So I hold no expectation that I will heal quickly in any wounded place.
Although the pain may be uncomfortable for quite some time,
I’ve discovered happily over the years that once my recovery is complete,
I am so thoroughly healed that I can’t even remember where to find the scar.
If I even remember to look for it,
If I even recall there was ever an injury.
So, when any particular heartache has finally run its course,
Don’t be surprised if I have trouble recalling your name.
