The litmus test to know
If what you feel is Love,
Or if you can truly Love,
Or feel the truth of Love,
Is whether your heart shares,
Is flooded with a need
To give itself away,
No matter how received.

So if you find yourself
Pulling back your gifts,
Forgetting to report,
Or in a quid pro quo exchange,
Then it cannot be “love”
It’s not what you have claimed
It’s just self-serving greed
Conveniently filling need.

A heart in Love takes joy
In sharing all it has
In giving its beloved
Everything and more.
True Love will overflow
No matter what the price
No matter if received.
No matter what’s believed.
