I’ve hit an impasse
The only way forward is straight down
Not sideways or backwards
And so I wait.

I’ve come to a stop light
Too tired to accelerate
Hoping it won’t turn
So I can rest here.

I’m at a dead end
too tired to turn around
So I will crawl into that cardboard box
And sleep awhile.

I’ve hit a brick wall
Crushed my face into the cold stone
happy it is solid
And can take my weight.

I’m at the front door
afraid to press the doorbell
For fear that You will answer
And welcome me inside.
